My review is coming several years late but I was compelled to submit a review as I will be moving soon and I'm in the process of finding a mover for my piano, which I purchased from this store. This store came as a recommendation from my former piano teacher, Elizabeth B, when I started taking lessons from her. I had the most pleasant experience with Jarl, who I believe is the Executive Director.

He showed me a variety of new pianos that were within my budget as I was on the "Rent to Own" plan. I ended up buying a beautiful Knabe upright, which still has it's beautiful color and shine after all these years. Jarl answered many of my questions after the purchase and arranged for a great delivery (I forget the name of the company but I should find out as I need them again to move my piano - LOL) that came within the time frame and it was quick and efficient.

My piano teacher moved out of state and I now work closer to DC, otherwise I would sign up for lessons from here. Thank you so much Jarl and ARTI-ST! (Tor Wills aka Catrena Townes)

I live very close to this music store and am often disappointed when I am forced to either leave town or wait until 12:00 to buy new strings or rosin or whatever I need on a weekday to get my morning jam in. If I need an instrument, this is not the place I would go. I go here for accessories and small essentials. Unlike most music stores, this one opens at 12 instead of 10, and I once found myself cursing their glass doors because I needed new guitar strings at 11:00 am.

The early bird gets the worm, and this place lost me because of their hours. I hope you see this and consider opening earlier. I've been going to this location since I was a kid and am truly disappointed with what the place has become. There's always hope though, I suppose. The store also has a pretentious vibe to it that I'm not all too pleased with, but I can live with that, it's really the hours that bother me, most head shops are open earlier.

I was in Reistertown helping a friend look for a music store that would also offer lessons for his musically inclined daughters. One of the stores I found on yelp was Artist Music and their single review was not flattering at all, but because it was about the salesman not having enough knowledge about things she needed to purchase for her violin, I proceeded to explore the store website.

I was impressed with their website, the owners believe that you have to learn how to correctly play an instrument right from the start. All their teachers hold at least a bachelors degree in the instrument they are teaching so that was very reassuring to me. So my friend and I proceeded to the store and we got to meet the owner, Jarl, and he was really wonderful to talk to, he took his time with us explaining the differences between the various types of digital and acoustic pianos and other instruments, and we discussed musical education for kids and how to choose the right instrument for a child (you can learn to play two instruments instead of just one and I think that's great, that way you are not forced to love just one and stick with it) and we got a whole new education from a very well informed musician.

If your children love music, I highly recommend visiting this store and talking to Jarl just because he is highly qualified (he has a PhD in music and plays both the piano and cello) and because of his long experience in teaching music, along with his wife who is also a musician. His kids learn music too so he had some great insights for us as to how kids these days approach music lessons.

After two visits, I have come to the conclusion that this is not the music shop for me. I expect employees of music stores to be familiar with all types of instruments, and that certainly isn't the case here. My first visit was for a new set of strings for my violin. I asked the person working at the counter to see their selection of violin strings and was given viola strings.

While these two instruments are very similar, their strings are not interchangeable, and someone who works in a music shop should know the difference. My second and final visit was to get a shoulder rest for a 1/2 size violin. When asked to see the selection of shoulder rests, the staff had no clue what I was talking about. This is not acceptable of music store employees!

The staff should be very familiar with all products and should have basic knowledge of all instruments. I'm not a believer of the third time being the charm so I will not be returning to this store again. There are too many music shops in the area to have to settle for such incompetence.
