Hello! My name is Abra West and I am a full-time, professional piano teacher based out of Irvine, California. A graduate of the prestigious Thornton School of Music at the University of Southern California with degrees in both music and psychology, I enjoy combining my years of teaching experience with my love of music.
My comprehensive piano lessons are customized to the needs, goals, and learning style of the student. All lessons cover theory, note reading/note spelling, technique, musicality, etc. Conducted in a precise, positive environment, lessons are fun and effective for both children and adults!
Beginning students learn the basics of piano playing by studying a series of lesson, technique, and theory books, while intermediate students progress by studying true classical pieces that are specially picked for the student. My goal is to help all my students learn the proper fundamentals of piano playing along with good practicing habits so that, if they wish to do so, they are exceptionally prepared for the advanced study of piano.
Although an extremely supportive teacher, I do hold my students to high musical standards as I know that, with proper instruction and practice, they WILL be able to overcome challenging topics and master difficult songs, ultimately building confidence in their playing as well as increasing their self esteem in all aspects of life.
When ready, students have the opportunity to participate in studio recitals, as well as other festivals, competitions, and examinations (including the MTAC Certificate of Merit program and the Royal Conservatory of Music Development Program).
Please visit my website for more information (including testimonials). From there, you can also contact me to schedule a 30 minute complimentary introductory lesson (required for both beginning and experienced students). Thank you!

Before Abra, my son was NOT at all motivated in playing the piano and practices were a daily struggle. Since his first introductory lesson with Abra, I could sense a difference in his attitude about playing the piano. Abra really knows how to make playing the piano fun, which is key when working with children. Abra is patient and had a great rapport with my son. She also took the time to answer my questions as well which I really appreciated. I highly recommend Abra to anyone looking for a piano teacher!
