Primeau Guitar Studio Unlike a large music, multi-teacher music school, at Primeau Guitar Studio, you're not just another face in the crowd. I aim to create a personal, friendly relationship with each of my students. You won't hear other guitarists noodling through the walls or have to deal with a secretary to take care of scheduling. Likewise, I am a full-time professional teacher so I won't be missing lessons frequently for performances and you'll never be passed off to another teacher.

The studio is filled with every book, DVD, audio equipment, effects pedal and learning tool you could ever need to for a great learning experience. Scheduling is simple, flexible and visible online. If you're feeling interested in learning the guitar, please click on the "Book A Lesson" tab and we can set something up in person. I look forward to working with you!

Kids Lessons
Report
Kids Lessons Teaching elementary-aged kids can be something many guitar teachers avoid. It requires a different level of patience and style of teaching to accommodate the learning needs of children. Their shorter attention spans and smaller hands require a very age-specific curriculum. I have a very well tested pedagogy for kids, teaching them how to read melodies via tablature in order to strengthen their fingers before moving them to reading standard notation. Once their fingers and knowledge of the guitar are adequate, I begin teaching them how to sing and play popular songs.
Adult Guitar Lessons
Report
Adult Guitar Lessons First and foremost, I appreciate that each student has a different background, goals, influences, habits and learning needs. There is no cookie-cutter, one-size fits all method for learning the guitar. My lesson plans focus on teaching directly toward the students interests, building new skills each lesson on the solid foundation we created in previous lessons. By using a step-by-step approach based in the music you love, you will build both a strong understanding of the instrument and a large repertoire.

I've worked with several different music teachers over the years, and Chris is by far my favorite! He is patient and thorough, as well as attentive to my learning goals and musical preferences. I've made much more substantial progress during my six months of lessons with Chris than I have in fifteen years of watching YouTube videos on my own, in part because he knows exactly how much to challenge me in order to motivate me to practice during the week. Logistically speaking, I appreciate the flexibility of being able to meet in person or online, and it's easy to reschedule lessons if necessary. I highly recommend his studio!

I've been taking lessons with Chris for almost 2 years, it's been transformational for my guitar playing and performing. I'm 50 and I never would have thought I could stand up and perform in front of people but he really knows how to build a player up! I started with almost zero knowledge and I now have binders full of lessons and musical knowledge that I will carry with me the rest of my life.

The other amazing thing is we did it all entirely over Zoom! He's worked with me on both the acoustic and electric guitar, he's patient and an excellent teacher! I take one hour a week lesson and it's really one of the best investments in myself I've ever made!

Chris is a great teacher. He is able to meet you where you are and build a class to focus on the areas of guitar you are looking to improve on.

Chris has been a great instructor. He's very knowledgeable, patient, and personable. He's able to answer all my questions and I feel like he's helped me come a long way in the year that I've been seeing him for lessons!

As a self-taught adult player who wanted some structure and to figure out what I didn't know that I didn't know, Chris has been absolutely incredible for the past three months I've been taking lessons. I thought virtual music lessons might be awkward, but he's both made me feel accomplished and confident with what I've learned while pushing me JUST enough that I'm always challenged. Even others have noticed how much more musical my playing sounds already! Lessons have been a highlight of my last couple months- I can't recommend enough.

Chris has been a phenomenal instructor for me. I was pretty much a beginner when I started with him and he's brought me to a point where I'm getting to learn to play my favorite songs. I'd highly recommend him, he's a great teacher

I came in with a small amount of guitar experience, self-taught so I had acquired some bad habits. Chris arranged the curriculum in such a way that I could practice songs I liked while also learning new techniques. I had a lot of choice in which areas I'd like to work on (fingerpicking, folk or blues etc). It's been a couple of months and songs that seemed daunting earlier are much more accessible to me now. I'd say each class is worth every penny.

I'm an adult beginner and I'm far more accustomed to keyboarding on a computer than playing guitar. Chris is very patient and selects music that is challenging and enjoyable but not overwhelming. Now that my kids are a little older, I wanted to learn guitar, which has been life-long dream. Chris makes this experience possible. Oh and if you are wondering, yes, I did start the guitar by downloading "play guitar" apps. But I couldn't advance past a few basic lessons. Working with Chris, I'm making great progress. He is an excellent teacher.

Chris is a great guitar instructor, and I would highly recommend him to anyone who asks. Before beginning lessons I could play a few chords, but was unable to play through any songs. I've been taking lessons for a couple of months now, and I'm able to play through songs and use a variety of strumming patterns. Chris has also been really helpful with sharing knowledge on how to make practice more effective. Taking lessons has been incredibly fun, and I've already seen vast improvements in my playing. Chris is a fantastic instructor, and his lessons will help you reach your goals.

Chris is an astounding teacher. He is extremely organized, highly efficient, and really knows his stuff -- both as a musician and (more importantly) as a teacher. Chris has the unique ability to make his lessons as technical or as non-technical as his students prefer, and he does an excellent job of calibrating his teaching syllabus based on each student's specific needs, goals, and talents.

As an absolute beginner guitar student trying to fill time during the COVID-19 pandemic, I was unsure at first of how well remote guitar lessons would go. I needn't have worried. Chris has done an exceptional job of teaching via Skype, and though he has a home studio where he can provide lessons during "normal" times, I have been very pleased with how our lessons have gone via video chat.

If you have a guitar tucked away in your closet that you'd like to learn to play, or if you're an experienced guitarist wanting to hone your chops, I can recommend Primeau Guitar Studio without hesitation.

I have been taking lessons from Chris for close to two years now. I started out as a total beginner and over that time he has helped me to develop the skills and technical knowledge necessary to both write and play the music that I truly enjoy. I admittedly do not have a lot of free time to devote to learning guitar but lessons with Chris always feel meaningful and impactful as they help me learn guitar in a way that is consistently exciting and rewarding for the time that I do have available put into it.

"It'd be so fun to learn guitar someday." "Someday." I'd told myself that for several years. I even got an inexpensive acoustic guitar one Christmas, and on more than one occasion I picked it up and looked for YouTube videos. Surely I could teach myself, right? I fantasized about how fun it would be to be able to strum through my favorite 80's power ballads around a campfire with friends.

But inevitably, my efforts at self-teaching ended in frustration. I finally concluded that unless I got serious and took lessons, "someday" learning guitar would end up becoming "never." I searched Yelp for guitar teachers and came across Chris Primeau. I've been taking lessons with Chris for roughly one hour a week over the past year, and I'm staggered at my own progress.

I can play dozens of songs with confidence. A year ago I couldn't play jack. It's one thing to be tremendously talented at something (which Chris is), but it's another skill set to be able to transfer that information clearly to a student. Chris strikes a really great balance--tons of patience as you work through tasks, but also continually pushing you to grow.

I look forward to every lesson. If you're on the fence, just pull the trigger and book a lesson. Don't be surprised if his schedule fills up, but trust me when I say it's 100% worth the effort to get started with him. You'll be glad you did.

I hadn't picked up the guitar in about a decade and came to Chris Primeau to help me get back to working my musical muscle. I can't believe in such a short time I went from from Twinkle Twinkle Little Star to playing all kinds of Classic Rock tunes. Personally, my favorite genre! He tailors each lesson and song to help progress skills and different methods, while taking my musical preferences into consideration. Also, he teaches the song's entirety so I'm able to play a song to completion on my own. Lessons can be recorded which is great when I'm practicing at home to help jog my memory of what I learned in the lesson. Even though the weeks fly by, I'm happy I found Chris and my way back to creating music! Thank you!

Chris has been my instructor for about a year, and it's been an excellent experience in more important ways that I can say in a review--even just a bulleted list would exceed Yelp's word count limit. So instead, go to the Primeau Guitars homepage and read it. I can honestly say that every single word is true, and if anything, he is being modest. (One small exception to that last statement is that I can't claim firsthand experience with the kids lessons.

But if my boy has any interest in playing when he's big enough to hold a guitar, I'm signing him up with Chris.) There's really only one thing that matters: It's not every day that you meet a person with superb knowledge of their area of expertise who has been an instructor for over a decade and still has a genuine passion for teaching. To find someone that checks all those boxes and is also an excellent teacher is a special find. Chris is the real deal.

For Christmas of 2015, one of the gifts I was fortunate to receive was a new Martin acoustic guitar AND some guitar lessons. Chris was initially chosen because of his proximity to our home, but he's proven to be a great choice. He is patient and attuned to what I want to learn and realizes people want different things out of their lessons. Some want to learn various styles and techniques, and others want to learn a way to express a few songs that they love.

I happen to fall in the latter of those two, and Chris has been great at helping me learn the songs I want to learn. I recommend him strongly to everyone one wanting to improve their playing.

Had the pleasure of getting to work with Chris for about a year. He's great at incorporating different teaching methods and tools to get you where you want to go. I hadn't exercised the creative muscles in my brain in years, and Chris will certainly push you : Couldn't recommend him enough no matter what level you're at.

When I started I didn't even know how to hold a guitar. Now I have been taking lessons with Chris for about 9 months and he has taken me from utterly hopeless beginner to playing real (mostly) recognizable songs! He is endlessly patient, non-judgemental, especially about my subpar singing voice, and a great teacher. If you're even considering starting guitar or building on your existing skills, go see Chris immediately!

I've been "playing" guitar for years but had hit a wall in terms of my ability to self-teach. Working with Chris has made a big difference in what I believe to be possible within my own skills. examples: finger picking and barre chords. I had basically decided that I'd just play only songs with C, G Em and D chords forever and ever because Bm and an honest F just seemed out of reach.

The idea of ever being able to play and sing even something simple like Fleetwood Mac's "Landslide" seemed unlikely. After a few months, even with my sporadic schedule, I'm beginning to feel like I can actually play guitar instead of just dabbling for my own amusement.

Chris Primeau is an excellent guitar instructor! At age 55, I am starting life over and wanted to pursue my long lost desire to play guitar. I had taken lessons as a teenager but even with countless hours of practice, never improved beyond beginner level. After just a few lessons with Chris, I have already surpassed my teenage skill level by far. I had tried another guitar instructor before finding Chris, but I much prefer Chris' teaching style. It's so much fun to practice popular songs rather than just playing scales or nursery school songs. I highly recommend Chris to anyone who wants to learn guitar or improve their current skills.

I wanted to update my review of our son's progress since working with Chris for about a year and a half now. First, let me get how jealous I am out of the way. As a guy who messed around with the guitar, I never had an instructor like Chris. So when my son blew past me and relegated me to playing backtracks for him, I was both proud and pissed.

Our son was really improving and coming along well. He could play whatever he wanted and he was putting in the hard work. The Practice. So we increased his lessons to two times per week. Working with Chris two days a week has made him a musician. He's now writing music and trying new things. Experimenting and discovering his sound. Pushing harder and trying to bend his guitar to his will. I believe Chris is responsible for this growth. I recommend him to anyone out there looking to play the guitar.

I'm very happy with Chris as a guitar teacher. While I've had other teachers before moving to Austin, I'm really still a beginner, and Chris has helped me bust through several things I was having difficulty with - like reading music and finger picking, to name two. I'm really enjoying our weekly lessons, and highly recommend him to other adult students like me.

We have had the honor to have Chris Primeau work with our son, Grayson, for the past year. Our son has played "at" guitar for seven years, but he wasn't a guitarist until he started working with Chris. Chris has lifted Grayson's innate talent to an entirely new level. Not only is Grayson excelling at guitar because of Chris' tutelage, but Chris has influenced Grayson's focus, commitment and passion for music.

We could not be happier with the progress that Chris is responsible for creating--and we are excited to see what comes next. I agree with others who have posted that Chris is extremely results and goal-oriented. He takes his job very seriously and behaves with the utmost professionalism in all aspects. He even conducts two recitals a year so the students can display the results of their labors and learning. If I could give more than five stars, I would.
