Jon Chorba
Owner/Teacer
Jon Chorba is a dynamic, energetic, and passionate guitar player, singer, songwriter, producer, sound engineer, and music instructor from Arlington, Texas. Jon holds a degree in Recording Arts from Full Sail University and has been a working musician for over 15 years.
Since 2009, Jon has taught hundreds of beginner, intermediate, and advanced guitar players. When asked what sets him apart from other guitar teachers, he repiles. "No one....and I mean no one...will ever care more about my students than me. I don't ever view my students as clients. They are more like friends and family that have honored me with the privilege to help them play the guitar how they always envisioned. I take that privilege very seriously. Also, I have incredible patience. I understand that not everyone learns the same way and I adapt accordingly. If Method A doesn't work for you, I have no problem trying Methods B through Z to get the result that you want!"
Jon is also the founder, principle songwriter, and vocalist for of the hard rock band, The Liberty Underground, who released their debut album, "Three Feet From Gold" in October 2013. The album draws heavily from Jon's influences of Tool, Guns N Roses, Metallica, Pearl Jam, and Alice In Chains. While Jon wrote, recorded all instruments (except drums), produced, edited, and mixed the record from his small apartment, the end result is a punchy, polished product that could compete sonically with any commercial release. The record features high-octane riffs, meaningful lyrics, reflective ballads, and epic guitar solos.
Jon is also an accomplished sound engineer. He worked professionally as an Audio Engineer at Deluxe Digital Studios and has worked on recording projects with Denise Hudson (current backup singer on NBC's The Voice), Jerad Lippi (drummer of metal band Ever Forthright), and singer-songwriter Jacob Vanko.

I first picked up a guitar in 1961 and learned to play from books and friends who had learned the same way as I. I've continued to play ever since; mostly by myself, sometimes with others. With no structured training, my knowledge of the guitar and an even rudimentary understanding of music theory have gaping holes. Through the years, I have seldom played above the third fret and to be brutally honest, have not improved in knowledge or skill in 60 years.
Enter Jon Chorba. I found Jon on an internet search for guitar teachers near me. His new student offer was reasonably priced and fair to both of us. On our first meeting, I presented a list of things that I wanted to learn. Among these I wanted a foundation in music theory. Knowing that I wouldn't write a symphony, I didn't want to get bogged down in theory, only what I needed to understand concepts related to understanding and playing the guitar.
I needed help with some basic strumming and picking skills. Most important, I wanted to make friends with the entire fretboard from nut to the soundhole and play up and down the neck on breaks and solos. From the first, I knew that I had picked the right teacher. It was obvious from Jon's excitement as I went through my list of goals. As a person, Jon is open and friendly and as a teacher profoundly knowledgable and very professional.
He listens very carefully to his students and understands not only what they say, but also the nuances of what they can't quite express. Jon is very patient and can explain concepts and instructions clearly and often does so with an excitement that reveals his love of his craft. He has a gift of leading students to lead themselves. I have been taking a combination of 1/2 and 1 hour lessons from Jon for about eight months.
In this time I have accomplished all of my original goals which now seem modest when compared to all the things yet to learn about music and the guitar. This creates new goals. I now have a far deeper understanding and love for the guitar than I had before I started lessons with Jon. I find a renewed excitement in music as I draw lovely sounds out of my guitars from places that I never explored before.
I have greater confidence in my playing. I recently went to a Bluegrass workshop where artists could only describe what they did in musical terms. Thanks to Jon, I understood what they were talking about. Lessons can open up a whole new world for the youngest student or even old dogs like me. Thank you Jon. Jeff Buehner Arlington, Texas

After about 18 months of trying to teach myself via YouTube, books, etc. I decided to get actual guitar lessons. The benefits of having an actual professional in the room with you are tremendous, as well as having some form of structure. Jon is super laid back and easy to work with. He has a lot of experience and really knows how to make things click when you are struggling. He gets as excited as you do as you progress. I would highly recommend Jon for anyone considering lessons in the area.

Jon is absolutely amazing! There really are not enough great things I can say about him. I started as a total beginner, and with his help and guidance I learned and improved so much in a short amount of time. His care, encouragement, and expertise is hard to match in my experience. Highly recommend!

Jon is a very good guitarist. He knows how to explain music theory at every level, beginner-intermediate-advanced. He is always encouraging and loves seeing his students grasp a concept- that "ah-ha moment" when something makes perfect sense. He's fun to learn with and very sincere, professional and he communicates clearly. I highly recommend Jon for guitar lessons. You won't be disappointed because if you practice, you will learn exactly what you set out to accomplish!

Hello! I'm a current student and I've been having such a fun experience these past few months. I've gained knowledge and skills during my guitar lessons with Jon. I'm getting to learn how to play my favorite songs, and be comfortable with my acoustic guitar. I like how he is very attentive and welcoming with what type of music I like. I also enjoy the knowledge he shares about guitar and how he's compassionate about it. Overall, I would recommend beginners and active guitarists to attend guitar lessons with Jon (you'll have so much fun!).

Jon is a fantastic guitar teacher. Great person to know as well. His understanding of the guitar (and probably some other instruments) is only 1 reason I keep taking lessons at all. Jon watches and actually listens to what you're doing. He's quick to applaud you when you get it right, and customizes the lesson to help you understand how and why to do it properly. And if that's not enough. He's very patient.

Jon is a fantastic teacher, he makes sure to work at your pace and won't move on til you fully understand the material. He is also very clear and with his instructing. He is the best guitar teacher i've ever had, and that's not an exaggeration. He's one of my role models and has taught and inspired me so much throughout my time with him. He's also a dog person, which is definitely a plus.
