We are committed to giving our students a strong foundation and continued education in music. In addition to teaching music theory, technique, history, note reading, and musicianship, we strive to impart a love and appreciation for music to our students that will stay with them for a lifetime.

We are a family run music school founded here in Cincinnati. Originally founded as Backer Piano Studio, we are a husband and wife team following our dreams to teach music and have a positive influence in our students' lives and in the Cincinnati community.We are located in the heart of Montgomery, convenient to Blue Ash, Kenwood, Madeira, Indian Hill and numerous shopping/dining venues. We have a comfortable waiting area with free WiFi connection, bottled water service, and plentiful off-street parking.

Joe Backer

Piano

Joe Backer received his Bachelor of Music from the University of South Carolina , and Master of Music in Piano Performance at Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music (CCM).

Anna Backer

Piano

Anna Backer received her Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance and Piano Pedagogy from Converse College in Spartanburg, South Carolina. She recently earned a Masters in Business from the University of Cincinnati's College of Business along with a Masters Degree in Arts Administration from the Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music (CCM).

Audrey Walstrom

Voice

Audrey Walstrom has worked with singers studying classical and musical theater voice at the preteen, high school, and college level. She views different styles of singing as like different sports: all athletes, regardless of their specializations, do basic body conditioning and coordination exercises

Jennifer Howell

Piano

Jennifer Howell has worked with piano students of all levels and ages. Since 2007, she has taught privately and as an instructor in the Secondary Piano program at Oberlin Conservatory.

Samantha Price

Viola And Violin

Samantha Price has extensive experience teaching since 2001. She has taught in private music studios, the Lamar Stringfield Music Camp, and Bryan Station Middle School. She has performed with the Brevard Music Festival Orchestra, South Carolina Philharmonic, Asheville Symphony Orchestra, Hendersonville Symphony Orchestra, and the Spartanburg Philharmonia Orchestra.

James Meade received his Bachelors of Music from Eastern Kentucky University, and Master of Music from the Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music (CCM).

We couldn't be more pleased with the piano lessons from the Cincinnati School of Music. Joe Backer is patient and helpful with our 6 year old, who doesn't have a real long attention span. With our 12 year old, Joe has been able to challenge him in a nurturing way. We are all in awe of Joe's talent as a musician and this is very motivating for our children. I would recommend Cincinnati School of Music to everyone I know!

My daughter played piano for a few years before switching to Anna Backer last year when she was eight, we are happy Anna is now her teacher. My daughter became much more interested in playing piano after learning from Anna. Practicing is no longer a daily routine, she just loves and enjoys playing the piano now.

I can't recommend Cincinnati School of Music enough! If the Backers excel at any one thing (and it's hard to choose just one!) it would be the ability to motivate their students to succeed and progress - and they do this by fostering a deep love for music and creativity!
