Matthew Smith's Guitar Studio I offer lessons that provide a well-rounded and structured approach to learning music. Although the skills required to play basic songs can be learned in just a few lessons, many students will continue their study for years. Students will learn to read music, understand music theory, improvise, and perform songs or compositions. As the fundamentals are covered, students are also encouraged to bring in music they wish to learn.

Because my studio is solely and independently owned, I am able to offer experienced and professional musical instruction at a very competitive rate. Students do not pay the extra dues and fees associated with taking lessons at private music academies. Also, students are able to discuss and resolve scheduling issues directly with the instructor, rather than leaving messages with an office secretary or manager.

Matthew Smith
Matthew began studying music at an early age. His parents enrolled him in private piano lessons at age four, and he continued them until he was fourteen years old. He then acquired his first guitar and began teaching himself folk and rock music. Matthew spent hours singing and practicing his favorite songs by Bob Dylan, David Bowie, the Beatles, and other singers and groups he heard. Under the guidance of James Cass, Matthew learned standard note-reading, jazz chart-reading, and basic fingerstyle technique.
