I purchased a guitar from Alamo Music Center and had it shipped to California. I dealt with Cooper Greenberg, and I could not be more pleased with the transaction. Cooper was very professional, took great care to answer all my questions, sent me photos of different guitars to choose from (to get a nice flame top), and then promptly and securely shipped the guitar. Cooper offered some of the best, and nicest customer service I have dealt with either in person, or online, at any music retailer.

Because of Cooper, my experience with Alamo Music Center was amazing. I couldn't be happier. I will definitely be back for any future guitar purchases. Thanks! By the way - they also have an EXCELLENT, and extremely informative YouTube channel!

We purchased our piano here about 4-5 years ago. They were super helpful and extremely nice. Except if you're inquiring about selling it back. You get the runaround and then you get a condescending response. Don't try to sell your instruments here. They only care about making a commission.

What a great music instrument story! From gorgeous pianos to fuzz pedals. I purchased a new guitar from Nick and the service was outstanding. I had a few concerns after purchase and he and the tech helped me out and left me feeling confident I bought the right guitar.

Jon G! I have purchased several guitars and pedals from Jon! Taylors and a Gibson. Jon is an excellent example of what Alamo Music stands for, integrity and quality! Jon, is knowledgeable, extremely impartial with products to help the player find what is best for them, accessible 7 days a week, as I've texted him on his day off and with zero hesitation he helped me to purchase a guitar.

As a long time customer of Alamo music going back to the 70's when all I could do is look and wish that one day I would own guitars I could not recommend Alamo at any higher regard! Jon G. Is an EXTRAORDINARY sales associate that will meet and exceed your needs when shopping for guitars or new gear! Thanks Jon G!

I have worked with John on multiple occasions purchasing both acoustic and electric guitars. He has been great to help me and even find a couple of guitars that they didn't have in stock right away. they have great service as well as prompt shipping and the best prices around. I appreciate the help that they have given me and I will always go to Alamo music first!

Did you know that the good ol' Alamo Music Center in that (very cool) old building downtown started (out) life in 1929 as the Fresh Air Piano Company and (then) moved to it's current (very cool) location (at 425 North Main) in 1964 and was founded by Alfredo Flores Sr. who died in 2013 at the age of 105? Well, it did(!) and he did!

I purchased a beautiful baby grand at Alamo Music. Mr. Kevin Higgins was wonderful to work with. He took the time to instruct me on the many different piano features, brands, manufacturer's history and piano sound. He directed me to make the best selection based on my home acoustics and frankly I was impressed with his vast knowledge and experience in music. Moreover, he is an amazing musician and played a beautiful original song that almost made me cry with the emotion he can evoke when playing the pianos at the store.

I couldn't be happier with my experience at Alamo music. Mr Higgins is praiseworthy. I highly recommend Alamo music and Mr. Higgins if you want to make the best decision on your piano purchase.

I was in the market for digital grand piano so I answered a few questions while looking at pianos on Facebook. I received a text from Kevin within hours who was available for questions and even explained to me the differences in pianos and manufacturers, he really took out time to explain with no pressure or a sales pitch which really made me feel more confident. Kevin is an asset to Alamo and I will definitely do business with them again. Thank you for recognizing me as a veteran and for your professionalism. -Augustus

A bunch of lying thieves. If you buy something online from Alamo Music Center, don't expect to actually receive the item. If someone else wants to purchase the same thing for more money, they will sell it to them instead. Alamo Music Center has ZERO integrity.

Bought a Boss pedal that was supposed to be open box and fully functional. Not the case, two functions were defective and they are not responding to emails to complete a return for refund. Obviously, this pedal was returned previously as defective and re-sold.

I called to ask a question about a product and to ask if they had a certain guitar brand in stock which I planned to purchase from them if they had in stock but when I asked my product question the guy responded "can't you go on the internet and look them up". Super unprofessional, and super close minded, even in this day there are people who don't have internet. Never going there, or will I ever recommend the place to anyone again.

I took my brand new violin to get it up and running and they went above and beyond to make sure I was happy! As I was there I also noticed they gave that same kindness to other customers the minute they walked in the door. Jon fixed my violin and it is working perfectly! He also gave me extra advice (because still learning) at no charge regarding the rosin.

He saved me! I apologize I do not know the nice lady's name, she also was very kind. I would highly recommend this music store and plan to go back for all me musical needs!

Absolutely love the customer service and education provided by Alamo Music Center. This was my first piano purchase and I left feeling really great about our choice! Shout out to Joel and his crew for handling the delivery with expertise, as I know it was challenging to get this upstairs, but they handled it wonderfully. Thank you again!

I worked with sales representative, Nick when I was purchasing my first Taylor guitar. He worked above and beyond to help my purchase go smoothly via online and then personally got the other local location (where my guitar was located) to bring my guitar over to the location downtown, where I wanted to pick it up at. Nick was nothing but professional, friendly and helpful. I highly recommend Alamo Music Center and Nick in dealing with the purchase of your instrument, as you will be well taken care of!

Bought a beautiful piano here for a steal of a deal. Kevin Higgins was a great salesperson to work with. Delivery was delayed quite a bit due to some miscommunication on the part of the store, but the quality of the piano for the incredible price made it well worth it. Joel did good work delivering the piano up a flight of stairs.

I am a professional musician and local music teacher and absolutely love Alamo Music Center. Their staff is always so friendly and helpful and their inventory is incredible. Whenever my students need new instruments, supplies, or repairs, I can recommend Alamo Music Center with confidence because I know my students will be well taken care of. As a frequent performer, I love visiting Alamo Music Center because I know they will always have exactly what I need and make me feel welcome every single time. If you're a musician in San Antonio, Alamo Music is the place to go!

Do not buy an instrument here. My girlfriend and I came into the store to look for a piano for my little brother who's coming home in August. We wanted to test the pianos and find the best one for him since this is a congratulatory gift for his acceptance at Berklee. While testing out the instruments one of the employees told us that we cant "mess around and hangout" and he came over to us upset that we were "playing the piano over him" while he was playing the piano. (isnt he supposed to be working?) really uncomfortable experience. Unhelpful. Rude. And unnecessary. Wouldnt recommend. Gross environment.

I've been shopping here since I was a kid. I even took music lessons here back in the 90s. We would rehearse in their piano room decorated with vintage posters of musicals and the smell of wood lingering throughout. The shop has been around for a long time. The owner started the shop at a time when it was tough for a Mexican-American businessmen to conduct business so the savvy man hired a white guy to play the part of owner to initiate deals.

He would then pass the deals on to his "associate" to close the deals. Pretty clever beginnings and interesting San Antonio history. Today, it is still a family-run business with two locations. I've only visited this downtown location. There is a nice variety of instruments and related accessories. You can buy music books, tshirts, fun stickers, guitar picks and more.

I bought my ancient violin a new case and bow when my daughter took up violin in school. It's pretty cool to pass this along to the next generation. Then on a whim I purchased an upright piano. Yes a whole piano from their used-vintage selection. I didn't know where I would fit it inside my tiny home but it's something I've always wanted.

I can't really play it but I love it. I purchased inexpensive piano books and the stickers to identify each key. It was tuned and delivered to my house with easy financing. I got a good deal on the piano and financing. I was able to pay it off with very little interest. They also have a small room for intimate concerts. I've attended a cd release here and there's another coming up soon. Classes are offered on various instruments. Just give them a call. Staff is friendly and knowledgeable. Go see Gary for you accordion needs. I've sent many people his way.

I stopped by Alamo Music Downtown to browse the Piano's. Buying a grand is only a dream at this point, but I had some awesome conversations/dealings with Gary, and another guy that was tuning Pianos. I found a Yamaha baby grand that was a joy to play, and sat & enjoyed myself for a while, without feeling any pressure. Very awesome visit to the store. I left with a smile on my face! I'll be back

I wouldn't trust them if they want to buy from you. They tried to buy my $3,000 Piano for $100. I was trying to sell it for $600. He was willing to make a trade. which was not the point of me listing my piano for sell. I needed to sell it to pay for rent.

We worked with Kevin Higgins and he was very professional and knowledgeable and fun! He was helpful in deciding which piano would be the best fit for my son. While waiting for the piano to be shipped and after it arrived, he was quick to reply to a few questions we had. We love our piano!

My piano teacher recommended that we go buy our piano here. Was in the market for a gently used one, but the prices were so reasonable that we ended up with a new Yamaha! We absolutely love it! We weren't sure if the black or walnut would work better with our furniture so we went with the black. When it was delivered we still weren't sure about the color.

Our sales guy, Kevin Higgins, offered to switch it out for no additional fee if the color wasn't right for us. After we priced out buying it privately, paying for delivery, getting rid of our clunker, and no timings.it was a no brainier buying it new. They also gave us 2 free timings which is worth $300. They were only offering is one tuning and we had to pay for delivery at another piano shop. Kevin was awesome and never made us feel pressured.

I am a new musician, so I was really nervous when picking a guitar. I did a lot of research online and had an idea of what I wanted, but I figured talking to someone in a store would be better. The staff was so friendly and helpful! I was able to try two or three models of guitars and ended up picking a new fender acoustic! Great experience and I will for sure be going back!

I originally heard about this place after a friend of mine purchased a set of mics and a Peavey mixer and he mentioned it was a good all around experience. So, as I was in the market for an alto sax I paid them a visit in December of 2011, and Gary Smith took good care of me. As I was on a budget, he set me up with a brand new Prelude Alto Sax for a reasonable price (having purchased instruments before, I had already done some comparison shopping, and Alamo's price was perfect).

A few months later, I came back to purchase a music stand and some extras for the sax (neck band, reeds, ligature, swab, etc). I went back in 2013 for some music lessons and their prices were very reasonable. Mike Brown was very helpful and provided plenty of material to get me on track over the course of about 6 lessons. All in all, I've had very good experiences with Alamo Music over the years and would have no problem recommending them to anyone.

Disclaimer: I didn't utilize their services; however, I was faced with their lack of customer service skills. I recently went to an event and had to find a parking space. I found the building I needed to be at but I simply did not know where their designated parking area was at. I had to be at a particular spot for a city event and was confused by the lot for Alamo Music Center.

I thought I could park in their area as long as I paid but apparently that was not the case. By the time I put my 5 bucks in the slots, one of the employees came out and told me I couldn't park there. I asked him 'even if I already paid? Because I thought I could if I paid." He was polite but unsure and then proceeded to tell me that it was because they were having an event at their store.

He then told me that he could get my money back. After he said that, I followed him (he was posting signs around the lot) and he turned around and said, "Oh. I didn't mean now. Because I can't get in to the lock box. I can get it to you later though." I asked him what time they closed and he said six. He also told me where the parking lot I was initially looking for was at and I headed for it.

Now it's the end of the event and I'm walking back - SO TIRED - and approached the two ladies at the front desk. I received NO acknowledgement. Nothing. I guess when one of them finally decided to say something I truly felt as though I was bothering their time on the computer. I told them what happened that morning and I got the 'Sorry.

I don't know anything about it.' response. Then the one girl asked the other girl if she knew anything and I had to essentially re-tell my story again (even though I had already said it in front of them it was obvious the other could really care less). The second girl said "I don't know." Did they think I was some bum off the street trying to game them for 5 bucks?

I told them he even put up signs in the parking lot this morning and he came from this store. They just looked puzzled and kept saying they didn't know (as if that was gonna get me to finally leave and be out of their faces). I wasn't planning on going anywhere until I got my resolve. It was ridiculous. Finally, they asked one guy "who put up the signs?" and the guy on the phone pointed to another guy.

Then they told me to talk to him. I spoke with him and he asked the girls about giving me a refund and they told him, "We don't have a key to the box." Sooo. he gave me a $5 credit for their store or for the parking lot again. I was so exhausted from my day but I figured whatever. He was nice but the girls at the desk were so unbelievably unhelpful.

I even managed to say thank you on my way out the door and no one said anything. Wow. It made me glad that my son isn't in orchestra anymore - anything to not have to be treated like that again. On a sidenote, I'm all for local businesses and I hate giving horrible reviews. But seriously, if that's how they treat non-customers, how do they treat their regular customers?

Good to see shops like this staying alive with the likes of megamarts Guitar Center and Mars dominating the musical instrument landscape. Alamo Music Center offers privacy with separate rooms for drums, basses, electric and acoustic guitars and pianos. Lessons are offered on site as well so you can sign up with the people in house.
