Eliason School Of Music We offer both violin and piano lessons to students of all ages. We understand that as a parent you have a choice between several studios and that not all programs are the same. We use a unique combination approach to learning that we call complete instruction. This method evolved after years of experiences with portland piano and violin students who came to our program after experiences with other programs. We found these students and parents had common complaints about their previous lessons that led them to our school. Some students were allowed to play lots of pieces of music and the focus was on fun, but they were not improving because important techniques were not being taught.

Violin Lessons
Report
Violin Lessons Students enrolled in the Portland violin lesson program start lessons using the Suzuki method combined with a unique 7 Step Method for Tone Production developed by Brian Eliason. This combination method allows the teacher to immediately pinpoint what is wrong in a students tone, show the student through simple exercises how to strengthen that weak area, and as a result immediately improve the overall tone from the instrument.
Piano Lessons
Report
Piano Lessons Students enrolled in our Portland Oregon piano lesson program learn pieces from the Suzuki method as well as the Faber and Faber piano method. The benefits of using the Suzuki method are that students can learn songs by ear, focus on performing them correctly, and create excellent habits of play such as proper posture. Once students have had some time to develop strong technical habits of play the focus is shifted more to the learning of scales, musical theory and sight reading.
Guitar Lessons
Report
Students enrolled in our Portland Oregon Guitar lesson program learn pieces from the Suzuki method combined with more traditional note reading techniques, and we offer both acoustic and electric guitar instruction.

I took violin lessons for over 10 years with Brian as well as piano lessons from time to time. I still remember my first lesson, he corrected a couple things/bad habits I was struggling for a long time with from a previous teacher in that lesson. Brian is a wonderful teacher and has been a great friend in life. While I went into a different field than music in college I was still able to play in the orchestra at PSU with music majors while I was there. Give the school a try!

You have so much better options than this racist place. I'm surprised that my original review has been removed. They monitor and write their own reviews.

My son started piano lessons at age 5 with Danny who is a great teacher, very patient. Their prices are also reasonable compared to other schools.

We have been doing violin lessons with Chris since August, and piano lessons since October and we love him! He got our daughter quickly playing songs on her violin and her confidence has grown so much. He is outgoing, very fun, makes the kids laugh, and is a great teacher. He makes learning music fun, and takes off a lot of the pressure that can come with music lessons. His bright personality helps the girls come out of their shells. We highly recommend!

With no prior violin experience, I started as an adult learner with Brian a few years ago. It was everything I was hoping to find! The learning method is effective, and the teachers are knowledgeable not only at music, but at teaching as well. If you want a consistent, competent, and enjoyable experience, I definitely recommend them. UPDATE: I wanted to update my review from a few years ago.

Since then, our 6 year old daughter has started violin lessons from Brian for the past year as well. Because we live remotely now, we are doing lessons over live video on our phone/tablet, which is working quite well. She enjoys her lessons, which Brian makes understandable for her age through fun examples and stories. It is a positive, non-stressful environment for her and she continues to progress in her skills!

My daughter has been studying violin at Eliason School of Music for about 3 years now. She was in a traditional Suzuki school with another local teacher for about 2 years before but was never taught how to read music, just play by ear. She now is learning how to read and play and the transformation is amazing. Playing by ear is great but if you do not know how to read what your playing your missing a big part of the music your playing as well as opening the door to many more pieces to play on the spot.

I would recommend Eliason School of Music to anyone interested in playing violin, cello, piano or guitar and studying with friendly and positive instruction. My daughter is always smiling when she arrives and finishes her lesson there.

I've been taking my boys to take violin lessons with Brian and Andrew since they were 5, and have been really happy with both teachers. Having grown up playing the violin myself, I know the best motivation for kids is to instill a true enjoyment of music and the instrument. Both Brian and Andrew really seem to understand that. They are low-key, extremely patient, and have fun games and tricks to keep the kids engaged.

I like that they follow the Suzuki books, but they also offer a wide range of musical inspiration, not just classical. I would highly recommend either teacher to anyone considering violin lessons, who wants to learn at their own pace in a fun environment!

My 14 year old daughter has been taking Violin lessons for over a year from Brian at Eliason School of Music. He came highly recommended to me from someone I knew who's son took lessons from him. The price for lessons is pretty reasonable and I have been very happy with his teaching. He is patient and very calm. He uses lots of analogies and stories to teach. Best of all, my daughter has continued to progress and wants to keep playing violin. I feel very lucky to have Brian as my daughter's teacher.

Eliason School of Music has very qualified, skillful and kind instructors. The teaching environment is professional yet flexible. The instructors have had a great influence on our 3 kids (2 Violin and 1 Guitar) in learning music theory and improving their playing. We've been with other teachers & schools and this is the best we've found. I recommend you try them out. You will likely be delighted.

My son has been taking violin lessons for several years. His violin teacher, Brian is a wonderful teacher with many tools under his belt where he is able to personalize the lesson to fit the child's needs and temparement. I've seen solid growth in my child's playing as well as his love of music.

I am in my 50's and decided to take up piano because I was looking for a new hobby and missed hearing our daughter practice. My instructor Ben has been great. He has been encouraging (I was a little nervous as an adult beginner) and has provided just the right amount of technical and musical instruction. In addition, I travel frequently and Eliason has been very flexible and accommodating to my schedule. I'm amazed by my progress and get a lot of joy out of playing the piano. I would highly encourage other empty nesters to start playing an instrument. Eliason is a great place to do that. If you play the piano, ask for Ben.

Allen is a great piano teacher. It's fun to hear his excellent and redirection with my 5 year old. Brian, worked with me VERY patiently because I have a crazy work schedule and couldn't commit anything regular. He worked with me until I found something I can work with.

From my kid's perspective Eliason is a 5. She really likes her teacher and her lessons and she's gotten much better at piano. I'm rating them down a couple of stars for logistics. You deal with each teacher directly so it's difficult to tell them your kid is going to miss a lesson if there's a substitute teacher, for example. There's no central office to route those sorts of things through.

If I had to change my billing I have no idea how I would make that work or who to contact. Also their parking lot is really laid out badly. Difficult to get in and out. Again, these things don't distract from the lessons themselves but are annoying from a parent's perspective.

My young son started taking piano classes here. His piano teacher is very patient and encouraging. He looks forward to the lessons and doesn't grumble about practice at home because he is eager to please his teacher. Parking can be tricky at times, you may want to come a little early to make sure you get a spot before the lesson begins.

Brian ( the establishment manager ) is very accommodating to his customers needs! Quick to respond to requests and questions, Eliason had me setup with a second teacher when my first one around didn't work out for me personally. I was paired with Chris A. shortly after within a one week time frame. Chris is a classically trained pianist with a major in music from Lewis & Clark college focusing on Piano Performance, and Music Education.

I can feel the passion in Chris's teaching during the times he expresses his fascination for personal interpretation and articulation when playing piano pieces. In addition, encouraging, and emphasizing in developing his individual students ability to personally capture a piece to be their own with his fundamental teaching methods. His thoughtful, thorough explanations on music theory are broken down to easily convey the concepts to beginner level students such as myself.

I feel reassured when a teacher is, as or more passionate on the subject at hand, as well as teaching itself. I have been coming to Eliason for about 3 months now ( Started in July, took a month vacation in August ) and my progress has been going smooth, so I don't think i'll be budging anytime soon (:

My daughter switched from another place to here. She was not enjoying playing the piano and was having difficulty keeping her interest in learning. I expressed that to Brian and he hooked us up with the best teacher ever. She is very fun, patient, innovative, and plain old sweet. My daughter was 8 at the time. She's 9 now. But my daughter absolutely loves her and wants to practice now to improve before each lesson. Can't ask for more. Wait there's more.recitals! Love it.

I have had nothing but positive experiences with both the facility, Brian, and my instructor Chris. As a 30-something adult wanting to learn the violin for the first time (you're NEVER too old to learn a new instrument!), I understand that the school's main focus is children. Chris, my instructor, clearly knows his way around a violin, and is great to work with.

For obvious reasons, the lessons are a bit accelerated since I both have previous experience with stringed instruments (guitar), and that, as an adult, I am able to comprehend and learn faster. I like that Chris wants to know what style we want to learn, which he is able to incorporate between scales and general practice. The prices are very fair, the facility is clean and professional, and it's only about 10 minutes from my home.

I suddenly had a big inkling to learn playing the piano. I found Eliason music randomly while I was looking on Google. So glad I did! Its about 8 months now and I have come a long way. They only offer one on one music class and I dint know it then, but that's the best way to learn. I'm so happy with both the teachers I had until now. I first started with Renee she's absolutely wonderful and she used to just get me, she was very encouraging and was always so much more confident in my abilities than I am.

I now learn piano from Rachel and she is amazing too. She's always so patient with me and she corrects my music not just to sound accurate but also sound beautiful and unique in my own way. Brian who owns the place is very professional and it has been easy for me to work with him for any adjustments travel plan etc.

I can't speak highly enough about this school. My 5 year old daughter started violin lessons here with Brian and just adores it. She has progressed beautifully and looks forward to the lessons every week. Brian is a FANTASTIC teacher; incredibly knowledgeable and patient and full of tons of fun techniques for teaching kids and making them really understand the process of music. I would highly recommend to anyone.

This school is fantastic. Brian has been my daughters violin teacher for almost a year now. We came from 3 years of Suzuki after a tragic loss of our teacher there. So glad we found this music school. Would recommend to anyone wanting to learn an instrument.

Fun lessons and recitals for the kids. Brian is a really nice guy to talk with and you can tell he really believes in the importance of music and wants everyone to have a great opportunity to learn.

I have two children, and they have had several piano teachers over the years. We recently switched to Chris Anderson at Eliason School of Music. Our experience has been wonderful Chris is an excellent communicator and motivator. The lessons are tailored to the interests and ability of the child. My son is excited to play again and goes to the piano to play if he is bored.

I love to see his interest in music rekindled. I also love that piano practice is now something that he enjoys and that I am no longer struggling to encourage him to learn music.

I took violin lessons from Brian from age 8 until 18 and it was a great experience. Brian is an incredibly patient and helpful teacher. Throughout the many years I practiced with Brian he was always very supportive and encouraging. He is very good at pushing you to do your best, but also knows when to pull back to not push too hard. The recital concerts that the school puts on are a great way to gain experience performing for a supportive audience. I highly recommend the Eliason School of Music to anyone looking to learn the violin.

I have been taking my kids here for several years and it has been a great fit for my family, with one in guitar and one in piano. The teachers keep the lessons fun and I am impressed with how much they have learned. One negative is the parking lot can get pretty full but there is street parking as well so it works fine. They also keep the rates lower for families and they throw in free recitals (which are great!). If you are looking for lessons I would check the school out, I know that my kids are very happy here.

I've been taking my daughter here for piano lessons for the past couple months and it's been a wonderful experience. Right off the bat they asked us what type of instructor would work best for her and then paired her accordingly. As a result, she's having a lot of fun learning because her teacher is a perfect fit - very patient, knowledgable and upbeat - and it makes all the difference with her progress.

Their teaching methods are right on target, which I can say with confidence as I grew up playing classical piano myself. On top of that, the building is nice, there are several studios for various instruments and the staff and atmosphere in general seems friendly all around - you can tell it's run well. I've seen both kids and adults in there for lessons, so apparently they're a good fit for musicians of all ages and skill levels. Perhaps I'll end up going in for a few lessons myself for a re-fresher:
