Piano Lessons
Report
The Irvine School of Music offers piano lessons for students of all ages and abilities from beginners to very advanced students. For all students, special attention is paid to developing a strong foundation in ergonomic technique and ease of playing, the building blocks of a virtuosic keyboard technique. Auxiliary skills such as ear-training, sight-reading, and theory are simultaneously developed in order to create a comprehensive skill set that enables the student to play the style of music of his or her choice.
Voice Lessons
Report
Students in our vocal program sing all kinds of music, from their favorite artists to classical arias. Instruction may be in a wide variety of styles or tailored towards the student's style of choice. Irvine School of Music voice teachers all have a university degree in music specializing in voice and sing everything from pop and jazz to opera. Our teachers all have performance backgrounds as well. Just a sample of what a student will learn in singing lessons includes how to breathe properly, how to increase their range, proper pitch, how to project and stage presence.
Guitar Lessons
Report
Include acoustic, electric and bass guitar. Our guitar faculty is comprised of versatile musicians who can instruct students in everything from rock to jazz, classical to pop, Spanish to chording. Many of our teachers actively perform in bands. Our teachers have college or university music degrees so they know the proper theory and technique no matter if a student is interested in metal or in classical.
Violin Lessons
Report
Our string program currently includes private instruction on violin. Our private violin lessons start as young as age 4 and can be taught in the Suzuki method, traditional method, or combination of both. We also offer annual testing through the Certificate of Merit system should the student be interested
Drum Lessons
Report
We offer a wide variety of drum and percussion lessons. Most of our students learn on a drum kit. We typically do not start drum lessons before age 8 as students need to be able to reach both the pedal and the cymbals. We do have some younger students but suggest they come in for a trial drum lesson to see if they are big enough to get started.

I am an adult student who has a background in music, but haven't studied formally in years. I was searching for a place that had extremely advanced and experienced teachers. I found that place here! They are also, so wonderful and welcoming! My playing has already improved in 4 lessons! My teacher is fantastic at helping me break through the measures I've been stuck on for years! Finishing up pieces I haven't been able to for years, and it's sounding good.
Thank you Irvine School of Music! Update: 04/13/2022 Still here! The Irvine School of music has helped me so much! I had lost the ability to play my old repertoire. Like Beethoven's 'Fur Elise', Bach's 'Toccata' in D minor, 'Little Prelude', and more. I can now play all of my old repertoire pieces and more! Like Scarlatti's 'Folia', and Mozart's 'Klavierstuck' in F major, and Grieg's 'Concerto in A minor'!
My teacher has also helped me discover bad habits in my playing, and how to correct them. Which has helped my playing tremendously. I sound so much better than before! And, I assure you this is not just me tooting my own horn; but, comments from people who have heard me play for years think that my playing sounds better than ever! So, I can't help, but to feel thankful for the AWESOME job my teacher has done at the Irvine School of Music!

My son started with ISM back in 2015 and is now on his RCM level 8 Piano. The teachers that he has had during the course of his studies and currently have now have been superb and helped him shape his musicality. For those parents who are looking for a good music school for their children I recommend enrolling them to ISM.

My daughter has been taking piano lessons since July 2020 and she has progressed so much in a very short period of time. Ms. Joey is a wonderful, kind and engaging teacher. We are very fortunate to have her as the teacher. Ms Joey's teaching method is very effective and her feedback on applying dynamics and using the right fingering is really good.
My daughter is able to apply all her teachings and she plays the songs elegantly. Ms. Joey gives good training on RCM level exams that develops her skills further and builds a solid foundation. ISM school's medal level progression encourages students. The front desk team Natalie, Vincent and Chan are always helpful. I highly recommend ISM school for anyone that seeks music instructions.
They have an impressive program structure, flexible courses - online or in-person, friendly and accommodative staff. Natalie coordinates virtual concerts which serve as a platform for students to build on their performance skills.

I had the best time studying piano with Peter - he is extremely versed in all things related to music and theory, and he not only helped me get better at the piano but I also learned so much about the fascinating theory behind everything we do during the lessons. I can't really comment so much on the school itself, since I have only been to it twice before the lesson switched to online.
I would say it mostly geared toward kids, so as an adult learner you might want to keep this in mind. When staff calls you they ask to speak with "the parents of xyz", which is always fun :

My son Prithvi, has been learning Guitar for past 2 years with the Irvine School of music. His in-person teacher Mr. Brandon, was excellent in giving him the strong foundation to learn classical guitar. Now Brijesh, made the online platform easier for him as well. My son looks forward for his lessons every week to learn something new. Irvine school of music teachers are experienced professionals and they help your kids to learn in depth in a friendly manner without adding pressure on the child.

It's been a great 1 year journey for Our Son, so far! We loved teacher Tanner and Mr. Roberts is great as well. Love Ms. Natalie at front desk, very helpful and accommodating. I just have a recommendation to change your make up policy. I feel not only Master classes but make up classes should be offered. Armaan's Parents.

My daughter has been taking piano lessons at ISM for almost three years and we both see her great improvement during the time. The teachers at the school are very professional and they always find the right approach to make students understand well. During the COVID-19, the principle started ZOOM class at a very early stage and made sure the seamless transition from in-person class to online class. My daughter always has fun and feels motivated in her piano class and never get discouraged. Definite recommend!

Excellent school for learning musical instruments for kids. Teachers are really good and knowledgable. Teaching pattern is great. Kids get a lot of motivation to go and perform at their music concerts for kids and parents. My kid's teacher Miss Shadi is really awesome and gives a lot of personal attention to kids. Definitely seeing more engagement and improvements in my kids piano lessons.

ISM has played an important role in building confidence and musical skills for the kiddos. My oldest has been learning the drums from Peter and describes him as "patient and nice."He's adept at slowing the pace and bringing in different strategies of learning for improved student engagement. We also have the youngest taking flute lessons and it's music to my ears.
I am not entirely musically inclined but can see and hear the improvement. ISM teaches and challenges their students in a supportive way and that's really how I measure effectiveness and success. The kids enjoy going to ISM and have transitioned well with virtual classes, so we haven't had to push them to attend. In short, the instructors are student focused and the school is reasonably priced and receptive to feedback. For those reasons, ISM earns an "A major" as our music school here in Irvine.

Been coming here for private piano lessons. I like my teacher Pat and she has been patient with me since being an adult student sometimes I don't get the chance to practice a lot. She lets me decide what pieces I like to work on. So far my schedule works for me and it's not much of a hassle. It does get busy because I come for lessons on Saturdays and there are a lot of lessons going on but structure wise this school has been good for building my piano skills again.

I am a adult student and I took alto saxophone lessons here from January till April 2018. I had zero music knowledge and just wanted to learn something new while I was on a gap during my career (before relocating). My teacher Scot was very nice and knowledgable. He was able to cope with my schedule (very short time, and there are 2 pieces that I really wanted to learn), teach me theory and practice at the same time with great balance, keep me motivated and excited about the outcome.
I was able to play one whole piece of my favorite song at the end of the lesson! This makes me very happy. The staff was very nice here too. I would definitely recommend Irvine School of Music to a friend. If I have a chance I will come back again.

The teachers are great. The classes seem a bit rushed for younger kids + hidden registration fees not disclosed properly over the phone. However, god forbid you ever need to cancel. They lie about not having a scanner or fax to email over the cancellation form. Made me waste over an hour of my Saturday driving out to sign 1 page to cancel enrollment.
A lady with an accent wanted to talk to us over why we wanted to cancel. I don't want to talk with you, I just want to cancel enrollment. Don't punish people and make them waste their time to come in person to sign 1 freaking piece of paper. It's the 21st century for crying out loud! It's obviously an attempt to make things inconvenient via an exit interview. If it wasn't for this asinine cancellation policy I would of gave 4 stars for the toddler class.

It is just a great place! Both of my children love learning piano there. At the same time they are challenged, they also have fun. The instructors are very qualified and skilled. My daughters are so into music that now they are interested in singing and learning a new musical instrument. The new studio is also very nice and spacious. Overall, I just had a very positive experience there.

My son had asked to play violin for a while and I contacted the Irvine School of Music upon a friend's recommendation. Cameron was very informative. He even gave my son a piano lesson in an effort to help ensure that he truly wanted to learn violin. Cameron also helped us find a great rental place for our violin with an option to purchase it. Cameron's greatest gift was picking the right teacher, Matt, for our son

I have been enjoying my own lessons with Pheaross very much. His knowledge of music is astounding, and in addition to piano, we are working on music theory which has helped me tremendously in my playing. Although I cannot practice as much as I would like because of the demands of my job and motherhood, Pheaross is understanding and never makes me feel guilty. He keeps piano fun, which is exactly what I think it should be
