I studied the violin at the Dallas School of Music many years ago (in the 90s to be exact). This is where I grew my love for music. My teacher was so kind and so helpful and inspired me tremendously. After taking a few years off, I took some lessons at the school again and picked up where I left off. I was surprised to see that they were still so many familiar faces around.
I now play in fiddle in some local bands and teach private lessons; I model my lessons around the way that I was taught at the Dallas School of Music. I particularly enjoyed the variety of opportunities to learn through recitals and master classes, etc. Definitely recommend the Dallas School of Music!

I am coming up on my third month of piano lessons. I had some lessons as a kid and have been tinkering through the years and probably picked up some pretty bad habits. I had some bad luck with other teachers who heard me play and gave me repertoire that was too advanced for me, even though I indicated I wanted to start at the beginning and really learn technique and music theory properly.
I told Dr. Lawrence I wanted a teacher who would start with me at the beginning, and he assured me he would find a good fit. He did! I love my lessons with Susan and I feel like I am progressing well and fixing a lot of issues I've had for a while. We focus on proper technique, proper music theory and I feel like I am actually making progress rather than brute forcing harder pieces and reinforcing bad habits. Susan is very patient and helpful in her advice. I still have many years to go to reach where I want, but I know I'll get there with the help and support of DSM!

Giving this business 1 star and from the looks of other reviews on here it seems that I'm not the only one that had a bad experience with the Company. The problem I had with this business was the Owner / President (Dr. Bob Lawrence) in regards to additional fees that were not disclosed until after paying a required $50 registration fee. Once we disclosed that we would like to request a refund of the registration fee due to the now increased monthly tuition + fees, he denied us and referred us to contact his lawyer if we wanted to continue any sort of resolution with them. My recommendation to any one looking at this school is to ask about all potential costs & get it in writing.

My daughter has been taking voice DSM for the last year and half. Her instructor, Hannah, has been incredible! She is so great. The facility is wonderful and so is their digital presence, but the administration is terrible. Dealing with the staff on scheduling, registration, etc is just a nightmare. After attending the school, sometimes twice a week, we attempted to return this fall and our spot was taken. No email, no call and we were invited to join a wait list. So, if you think this school acknowledges student loyalty - think again.

This past semester was life changing. As an adult to go back to singing, something I loved as a child, was amazing. I learned so much about myself and enjoyed having an outlet of expression again. Seeing the progress was so fun. My instructor was patient, thoughtful, skilled and always knew how to help me work through something when I just wasn't getting it. I'm so glad that DSOM exists!

The lessons I did have were fantastic. My instructor was patient and incredibly helpful, and I enjoyed going each week. Unfortunately, the sudden passing of my instructor created a difficult circumstance, and my interactions at that point soured quickly. The school asked for patience while they sorted out the situation, which I happily granted them.
By the time they figured out what their plan was, there was only 3 weeks left in the semester, and I had already prepaid for 9 remaining lessons. They wanted me to roll the lessons into the next year, which for me, as the husband of a travel nurse leaving in January, was not possible. They then offered online lessons, saying they were just as good, a statement that I strongly disagree with. Finally, faced with no other options, they wanted to cram all of the remaining lessons into the last 3 weeks of December. Repeated attempts for a refund of my remaining lessons were denied.
I would never question the quality of the instructors and instruction here, but will only give them 1 star for their greed and inflexibility in the face of tragic circumstances.

After a first consultation with the director, I wanted to enroll my son in the school. The director proposed me to enroll him in the current semester, so for 4 lessons. It was perfect for me because I wanted to be sure it's what my son wanted (he never had a chance to try the music instrument) and because we would be out of country all the summer.
The second step was to rent the music instrument.there is two kinds of instrument. I emailed the director for know which one was required but I NEVER had feedback from him. So, after research on google, I decided to rent the single instrument. I was still waiting for the feedback of the director.and the only email I had was for tell me to pay the 35$ of applications fees for start the process.
So I payed them (it was a week before our 2 weeks of vacation and I wanted to resolve everything for our comeback). The director sent me an application to fill.and, surprise the registration was for the 4 lessons of the semester AND the summer. I contacted him for explain him, again, that the summer we will be out of country so, like talk with him, I just wanted to enroll him for the current semester. So, he sent me a new link for the registration.and, surprise, the cost of the lessons increase of 15$ (so 50$ for a half hour instead of the 35$ he told me). i sent him a new email.asking for why the cost change and, as talked with him, I was Ok for pay 35$ but not more.
I NEVER had feedback! So I spent 35$ for the fees and 45$ for the rent of the instrument., for NOTHING. The school seems great when you visit it.the website is great too but THAT'S IT.

I understand the reviews above my own, but I think those incidents are isolated incidents and don't reflect the true experience of learning from Dr. Lawrence and his staff. I have been taking courses since mid-February. I have genuinely enjoyed my classes. I do understand the frustration of communicating with schools and businesses, but Dr. Lawrence has been great with responding to emails. I think people of all ages will enjoy learning here.

Don't ever expect to get a live response on the phone because they never pick up the phone no matter what time of the day or night you try to call. In todays connected world there is absolutely no excuse for never ever picking up a published phone. I will come back after I actually show up at the school and see if my experience is any better. Everything looks very promising so I am going to make the effort and go to the address to try to enroll.
